Basement wall questions.

I am finishing our basement. The previous owner has framed the basement with 2X4 turned sideways 16"OC. I originally planned on removing the framing and placing 1" XPS against the foundation, then framing with 2x2s. Is this necessary or can I just put XPS between current studs and dry wall on top? We had a few moisture problems which have been corrected so I will replace some small parts of the framing either way.

Thanks,
Ben

Where you're located would determine how much insulation you should have. Unless you're in a place that doesn't get too cold, you might be under insulating with the proposed setup.

Basement wall questions.

That describes my whole house except the attic. The house was build in the 50's so there is 0 insulation in the walls. Previous owner installed aluminum siding so that helps a little.
I am in Kansas so it does get cold, but I really don't want to tear down perfectly good framing if I don't have to.

You don't have to tear it out, just add to it to get the "R" value you need.
