We are remodeling our basement and would like to install exterior egress stairs and door. Would like to run the stairs along the exterior wall of the basement instead of straight out. We have the capability to cut the block wall for the door but would like more detailed info on the construction of the footings (we live in Michigan so we would have to go down approximately 48" below the current level of the basement floor due to frost) to pour a cement landing. Is it possible to frame and pour cement to build the steps? I know that we would have to build block walls on 2 sides but am not sure if we would need to do any other re-enforcement for these walls, How far out would we need to go with this landing? Would having just the first step of the stairs resting on the landing be enough or would we have to go further? How would the stairs be attached to the walls? Is there someone in the Detroit area that does this kind of work? Lots of questions- hope to get some answers.
