Baseboard

We have a 1951 house with plaster walls. I put new carpet in the livingroom and removed all the old baseboard. It was just bad, scratched up by the previous owners dog, and just generally nasty. Anyways, what is the best way to attach new baseboard to the walls. Nails, Glue or screws? My last house had drywall so that wasnt too hard. If it is nails is there certian ones I should use? Thank you for any info.

Baseboard

most use finishing nails sunk below surface and filled/sanded to paint. i'd hate to be the next guy that laid flooring if you used glue! lol

Baseboard

Most houses that I have run into with old plaster walls had a wood board at the bottom of the wall about 2" tall so you could nail the baseboard to it. This board would not be covered with plaster but be painted the same color as the wall. Someone on the site might chime in with a name for that board. If that board exists in you house you should be able to nail the baseboard to it just fine.
