balloon framed structure with a flat roof

is it possible (and how) to make a shed, garage, or even a whole house, in traditional american balloon framing style, but which has a flat rooftop that can be used as a deck for example? of course, the biggest concern is water drainage on a roof like that.

i have seen flatroof structures (like every highrise pretty much but also garages) with flatroofs but they are all concrete structures and they have some method of draining water so that it doesn't end up penetrating its way down. but how about balloon framed structures.

this question is just out of curiosity -- i plan nothing like it in the near future. i did build a wonderful 100 sq ft shed with a regular ridge beam roof last year but i kind of wish i utilized the top as a deck (wishful thinking)

Of coarse it is. That would've been a cool shed! You'd still have to give your roof fall. Roof it then cut sleepers(to bring it up to level) that aren't attached but sit over your strong rafters. Attach deck boards to them and there you are. If it's very big we make the deck in squares or whatever works. So that you could pic them out and hose out underneath once in a while.

yes it is possible

the how depends on many unknown factors such as building height, dimensions of structure, basic wind speed, snow loads, site conditions, building code used ....

Keep in mind that no roof is actually flat.

Most flat roofs today are roofed with a single ply membrane roofing system. Manufacturers of these roofing systems require a 1/4" per foot slope for warranties to be valid. Some older flat roofing systems such as BUR and modified bits could address ponding better and didn't have as steep pitch requirements.

The way the walls are framed, balloon vs. Platform, doesn't really impact the roof.
