Baffled about attic baffles.

I have some foam baffles for my attic, but am stumped as to the correct way to attache them. I know there are different methods depending on the type (cardboard vs foam). Specifically, do I staple the sides to the roof sheathing or to the sides of the trusses? Also, do I staple the bottoms to the top of the top plate or to the facing (me) side of the top plate?

Cardboard baffles- They are face nailed to the top plate and at the sides to the trusses. However, cardboard baffles prevent insulation from covering the top plate. Insulation needs to cover the top plate, especially in cold climates, where ice damming is common. Cardboard is also a material that absorbs moisture when it’s present, acting as a food source for mold. I would go with the foam for that reason alone.
Foam baffles- are nailed to the roof deck. Extending out over the soffit about 4 inches so insulation can cover the top plate. Depending on the rafter or truss spacing (16" or 24") some company's sell the foam ones that separate in the middle. If you are using the full 24 inch baffles for 24" on center trusses then also staple the middle. If you are separating them for 16 on center then just staple the outer edges. And also try using corrosion resistant staples.
