Backer Board Minimum Dimensions?

I'm planning to install stone tiles on a portion of the outside wall of an outdoor kitchen. The tile section will be 41" high. Backer board seems to be available around here only in the 3'x5' size. My only question about installing the board is will there be any problems with running the boards horizontally (3' dimension high) and adding a 5" piece at the top? I've never worked with backer board and simply don't know if there are minimum dimensions for each piece (and none of the manufacturer's literature mentions this).

What kind of surface are you attaching the backer board to?

Nobody has an answer? Hard to believe that every backer board installation fits neatly to 3'x5' (!)

Go for it! Not an issue. Be sure to use the approved backerboard screws, that's all there is to it.
