Attic Venting Questions

I am thinking about adding insulation to my attic which currently has about R-19 in it. As per the findings of a home energy audit I apparently should have closer to R-40 up there. My question is, do I have proper ventilation for the extra insulation thats going to be added
The home is an "L-shaped" rancher with three gable vents, but no soffit vents or ride vents. Would it be worth installing both or will what I have be sufficient.
