attic floor sheathing
My attic has a fold down stair case leading up and have a raised storage area that right now is just covered VERY thick cardboard. The joists are at 12" on center on this platform. I would like to sheath it so I can easily store things on it without worrying about it breaking this cardboard.
I was thinking maybe a 1/4" plywood would work great. Any thoughts? It will just be junk storage for holiday decorations and such.
Can a average size person stand on a 1/4" plywood safely? I have no problem using 1/2", but saving money is always a plus
I was thinking about just using a drywall screws at say 12" o.c. to hold down this flooring so I could easily remove it if necessary.
I would use a minimum thickness of 5/8", though you could get away with 1/2".
I would rip the plywood into 12" widths, spaced about an 1" apart to let the moisture rise into the attic to be removed by your venting system rather than deposited on the underside of the plywood causing mold. Breath.....
Be safe, Gary
