Question

Attaching two gable roofs together

I am trying to expand my kitchen but I am having trouble figuring out how to, attach two gable roofs that are 12 feet apart, coming off the back of my house. As you face the rear of my house, the gable on the left sticks out 12 feet from the back of the main house, the other gable on the right which is 12 feet from the left gable, sticks out 10 feet from the rear of the main house. If you need a better visual of the floorplan, you can pull up the website DonaldGardner.com, and the floorplan for The Baldwin is the floor plan I am working with.

I appreciate any comments

You want to push the breakfast nook wall out? How far? You are trying to tie in the MBR roofline with the return gable around the chimney, is that correct?

Thanks

That would be the great room with the fireplace according to the floor plan. It doesn't show that stick out 10'. It only looks like around 2'. How far do you want the breakfast nook out?

Yes that is the great room. Sorry I forgot to mention that the fire place is not there, just 2 french doors and 2 windows. Also there is a screened in porch on the back of the great room which is 15ft 4in X 10ft, with a concret slab footings and a gable roof. Trying to push out kitchen between the master and screen porch 12ft. The screen porch extends out 10f and the master 12ft from the house.

Thanks so much

Construction started or still in the planning phase. Have you purchased that set of prints or just considering them?

You put a shed roof between the two gable roofs for the new kitchen. You'll have a valley on each side where the shed roof hits the two gable roofs.

Here's a quick drawing of the shed roof rafters from the rear view.

You want the shed roof to have minimum 4/12 pitch without the top of the shed roof being higher than the ridge of either gable.
