Attaching Porch Post to Foundation

What is the proper way to attached this post to the deck/foundation?

There is nothing connecting the post to the foundation. It is just sitting on the metal post support. I'm guessing that the metal support is to keep the post from rotting. I'm concerned about wind up-lift on the porch roof.

You could strap it and throw a trim detail over the strap if you don't like the looks.

Was this a permitted and inspected structure? If not, contact your local Building Dept and find out the correct criteria for your situation.

I would think it was looked at by the County since the porch was built with the house. I'll contact them and see what they recommend.

Thanks for the Stong Tie link. I have a booklet of their products but didn't want to see them after installed. I didn't think of covering it with trim wood. Thanks for the tip.
