Attaching floor joist to cap plate
 

I am building a loft. I have doubled up 2x8's for the floor joists. I am not sure of the proper way to attach the joist to the cap plate and/or rafter. Do I use some kind of bracket? Will nails alone work? If so, how many and where should they be placed.

I'd use 2, 1/2" x 6" carraige bolts per rafter to secure the dbl 2x8's. I'd attach it to the top plate by using 3 16d nails and a hurricane tie.
