attaching 2by4's to lap siding
 
Has anyone ever gotten a good seal by tacking 2bys to lap siding?
I am constructing a shed shop against the side of my house and need an idea for sealing

cut the 2x4 to fit the siding or cut the siding out the way. Calking the gap left by nailing over the siding is not a good idea but you could do it and stuff the gap with backing rod.

by the way what is backing rod?

foam rod that you shove in large gaps before caulking them. It saves you from using an entire tube of caulk on one lineal foot of gap by giving the caulk something to flow in against. The foam fills the gap, and then you cover it with a bead of caulk.

You'll find it near weatherstripping at Home Depot/etc.
