asphalt grindings driveway patch

I already have an asphalt driveway. However, there are spots where it was not put down properly & is 'sinking'. When I asked for a driveway quote, I was told my driveway was not put down properly in those areas They said it was not laid thickly enough & was put down over old tree stumps. This is where the 'sinking' or 'potholes' are occuring. My question is, can I fill in these areas with asphalt grindings & pack it down?

Asphalt driveways are typically laid on an aggregate base for support. For roadways, three layers of different sized aggregate is typically used and is 1 ft. deep. For driveways, you should have a 4-6 inch base of aggregate, tamped, under the asphalt.
