Arch ways, columns and ceiling drops - basement

Hi,

I am refinishing my basement and have a couple questions. If you look at the two attached photos, the first one shows what it will look like. The second shows an example of another basement being finished.

My first question is on the columns, arch ways, and 4" ceiling level drops, they are using plywood (sorry do not know the exact name). Is 1/2" ok for this or should I use 3/4".

On ceiling you wll see the two 4" drops in some area. Can I assume that I use 2x2s screwed into the wal and ceiling and then apply the 1/2" plywood?

Hope that explains it well enough.

2x2's will be fine for securing your ply wood substrate. I'm sure from the picture that they used the osb for a backer for there drywall.
Nice layout you came up with. Good luck BOB

Thank you. Do you think 1/2" osb is thick enough?

7/16" -1/2" is fine. just keep the osb off the ground about 1/2" so not to wick up any moisture.
