i am facing a dilemma whether to anchor my concrete stairs (7 steps) to the side of my brick house. they will go along the side of the house into the basement. i was gonna drill holes in the brick on the house and set some 8" bolts with anchoring epoxy and them tie them to the stair rebar structure.
the reason against this is that if the stairs somehow collapse or slide amid some weird act of god, or over time, they can rip the anchors along with the bricks they are affixed to and the whole house can collapse. i'd rather have to rebuild just the stairs than the whole house and having the house collapse while i am in it for the sake of bombproof stairs ain't my kind of safety.
the other side of the stairs leans on the neighbor's stairs, as our city row houses look like each other in the mirror.
thoughts anyone?
