Anchor in rigid foam insulated wall

I need to anchor a heavy duty shelf into a basement wall. The wall has 2in rigid foam insulation, moisture barrier, and drywall finish, but I am not sure of the details of the framing. The studs appear to be 24in apart, but covered on the inside with one layer of the foam (this is not as it is supposed to be, but it's the way it is around one power outlet). So the studs are some 3in below the surface. Any ideas how to anchor into such a wall? Would the furring strips suffice (assuming I can locate any)?

I doubt it. The bite will be 3" in. The weight will be far outside the wall. The only thing holding it up is foam and drywall. I think you would need a support under the shelf, like an "L" bracket with a diagonal brace.

Anchor in rigid foam insulated wall

Just to clear things up, Martin, yes the normal installation is to press the thin stone veneer into a wet scratch coat. The only thing complicating that is the foam layer. Hence the suggestion for something extra for the stone to bear on.

How much veneer are you installing? is it like a 12 foot high wall, or just a foot or two down by the foundation?

Thanks
