Anchor in brick or masonry?

I am going to anchor a 2x4 to my brick house and hang a 3'x3' gate from it. Where should I drill to install the lead anchors? Into the brick or into the masonry between the brick? Thanks.

Anchor in brick or masonry?

First off sorry for the late reply but we are trying to bring the site back to speed so hang in there with us!! As for your question I think this is a little tricky. I did some research and came up with mixed reviews. Myself after the research would drill into the brick. The reason I say this is because I feel the masonry might give way and eventually come out. At the same time I would think you need to be very careful about drilling into the brick for fear of chipping or breaking the brick. I guess it just depends on the brick style. If you have figured this out please give us an update and let us know what you did and how it turned out for you. Thanks

Damon

Anchor in brick or masonry?

I decided to anchor into the masonry and I must say it has held up well. I have a small gate hung from the post it works well.

Hey thanks for the reply and glad that you got the project done. So I guess the mixed reviews on this are for a good reason, you went with the masonry and it work fine. I will have to keep that in mind. Thanks again for the update.
