Anchor Bolts..what do you use

I'm doing a small addition on a slab foundation, and the city already told me I didn't need any hold-downs, just 1/2" anchor bolts. The only 1/2" bolts I find at Simpson, are short, 4" long ones. All the longer one's are 5/8" diameter. Am I not looking in the right place?

Has your slab already been poured?

Where are you buying from? a home center or pro type lumber supplier?

What type of anchor are you looking for exactly?

The 5/8" anchors will work for you if thats all you can find, better than 1/2".

The slab is not poured yet. The code says the bolt needs to be embedded at least 7", and then go through the bottom plate (2x4), and attach a nut. So probably about 10" long. All the 1/2" one's are only 4 or 5". The 5/8" bolts are a special shape or bend. I'm just trying to find how much the 1/2" one's are, and yes, if they're not much more, I could just use the 5/8" one's. I've gone to a bunch of jobsites and everyone uses the 1/2" ones, but it's always too late and everyone's gone to ask. I thought maybe someone here had used them before. I've tried the Simpson website and contractor supply houses.

The 5/8 bolts have a L bend end on them hard to describe. But if they do those are the ones which are used in new construction. You push them into wet concrete and twist them a little bit to get a good concrete adhesion on them. Go with the 5/8 i don't understand what the big deal is. MIght have to ask around for 1/2 inch

sorry for wasting your time, asking such a stupid question. I thought maybe someone would have an easy answer, but apparently those who know, are out building something, instead of playing on the web.

If all you're doing is holding down a stick-frame wall, then the bolts you found are adequate. Like 747 says, just slush them around in the wet concrete so they wind up in the middle of the 2x4 and sticking up high enough. I usually have figured the layout of the studs and place them so that they don't interfere with that.

There are no stupid questions, so don't hesitate to ask anything.

You will find what you are looking for at a Masonry Supply. Thats where all the brick and block guys get them around here.

Most of the contractor supply houses have them around here, but they are not on display, you have to ask for them.

If you can't find them let me know, I'll send you some! I have a 5 gallon bucket full of them in the shop.:D
