aluminum finishing for an exterior door

Hi,

I installed a prehung door a couple of weeks ago, and am finally getting around to the finishing. There is about a half inch gap between the door frame and the bricks, and I want to cover it with aluminum (over the door frame to the brick, figued Id nail it to the door frame).

Ive purchased the aluminum strips, and figured iI'd nail them with white aluminum nails, but when I tried it out on a scrap piece, it wasnt so easy, as it seems the aluminum nails are softer and bend. Whats the best way to affix this to the door? Should I use an adhesive like PL Premium? Any help is appreciated.

Pre drill whatever aluminum strips you're using before nailing.

Just a thought - if the gap is only 1/2 inch, could you just shove in some backer material and caulk it?

Aluminum nails aren't very fun to work with. As Ron6519 stated, predrill everything. From my experience keep the drill very steady as bits do not like to contact aluminum. They will snap off.

You could also try stainless steel powder coated nails made for aluminum capping. They come in white - not available at HD - but at a local roofing supply house.

They have a sharper point and hammer in much easier.
