Alside Sliding Door Installation

I just got a new construction Alside sliding door. The frame did not come put together! Is this normal?

I cannot find installation instructions either. Anyone know where I can get some?

Try their website. Many companies list these as PDF files, ready to download. If not, call the retailer you bought it from, they can copy one out of another box. Call the company direct, they might be able to email you one.

Surprisingly this kind of thing is getting more end more common. With cheap under qualified labor in the factories and automation.

When this type of thing happens for me I call and raise holy hell with the vendors. Even if I am not upset I tell the the time and money that I'm losing because of their mistake is ridiculous. Add in a couple of strategically placed four letter words and ask them how they plan to make it right.

Usually I get the part almost immediately and usually a partial refund.

Now I'm not to sure how well it work as a homeowner, but if you make sure that you let them know that you are extremely dissatisfied they should make it right.

You got a KD or "Knock-Down" door. Manufacturers generally sell doors this way to installers to save on shipping charges. Typically a contractor will buy this way to save money. KD doors generally dont come with installation instructions.

Does it show "KD" anywhere on the packing list or sales order ?

The nailing fin is an option too, you can order with or without.

I guess the sales rep never explained all this.

Nailing fins are an option with the door, I think they cost under $20. The instructions suck with their patio doors----read them at home and not in front of your client. I think we spent a couple hours on our first door and all the other ones were really easy. The nice thing about kd doors is you only need one person on the job.

BTW, make sure you understand where the sticky felts pads go before you place them in the wrong spot.
