adding to concrete steps
I want to make the entry steps to my front door wider by about 2 feet. They are brick and I believe there is a concrete base. Is there any way to add to the current width without tearing out the whole thing and starting over?
I wonder if taking the brick off, then sinking some bolts into the stairs to bind a new pour on the side would work? I am unsure what is under the brick in the 1967 house in Virginia. Last edited by jmoser1@woh.rr.com; 07-02-2008 at 10:26 PM. |

You're on track with the idea of bolts to tie the two together. I'd take it a little further. Get some 1/2" x 12" all-thread and some concrete epoxy. Drill a 1/2" hole 6" deep, blow the dust out of it, squirt expoxy in, coat the rod, and drive it home. I'd do a couple at each tread.
Once the epoxy sets, just form the new concrete up and pour right around the rods. |
