34" Wide Storm Doors Custom Size Only?

10 years ago I had purchased a 34" wide storm door off the shelf at a local home center. Now it seems 34" is a special order size.

I was shopping for a storm door at Lowes, and learned their standard Larson Tradewinds door (full view with a moving roll screen/windows panel) which sells for $298 in a 32" or 36" width, costs an added $280 to get it in a 34" width. A local door and window company said they do stock a few storm doors in 34" widths - unfortunately for me not in the style door I am looking to purchase, but agreed 34" is a non-standard size.

For those of you that are knowledgeable about storm doors, are there sources I might try where 34" is not a custom size? Or is it true that I am going against the industry standard, and will have to pay a premium to get the style of door I want in a 34" width?

34" Wide Storm Doors Custom Size Only?

Box stores ding you hard on doors they don’t stock.

Go to your local well established lumber yard and price your door.

34" Wide Storm Doors Custom Size Only?

Thanks for this bit of advice.

I continued searching and located a resource that was able to get me a 34" door as a standard size for 1/2 the cost of Larson door.

34" Wide Storm Doors Custom Size Only?

Hey Kc27,
It is true that a 34” wide door is uncommon, but shouldn’t be custom. I am from The Home Depot in Chicago and this area is filled with 34” doors. They are actually referred to as “Chicago doors” around here. 34” storm doors can be found on the shelf at local retailers around here or ordered for the same cost as they are in stock. A 34” storm door with full view glass and retractable screen is available as a standard size from Emco/Andersen in my area, so it should be the same throughout the country when looking at that manufacturer. Keep shopping around because 34” is a standard size. Goodluck-Gregg
