3 Season Porch Foundation on Sand

Hi, we recently purchased a small lake house in Wisconsin and wish to remove the old deck and replace it with a 3 season porch. We are looking for advice on the best type of foundation as we sit on 20-30 feet of sand. I am fearful that pillars would eventually sink into the sand. Any advice on the type of foundation and depth would be appreciated.

Also...we have an exposed stairway leading to the basement. I would like to incorporate an enclosure for the stairway with the construction of the 3 season room. Any ideas on the best way to accomplish this as well?

The basement is block walls, so would "assume" a poured foundation below the block.

3 Season Porch Foundation on Sand

Your local building inspector probably knows exactly what type of foundation is suitable and acceptable. Sand is typically a very good material for foundations, you are not going to get any settlement as long as the sand is properly compacted prior to placing the footings for the porch. Depth required is typically to frost, which could be four feet in WI. Again, check with your building inspector, but you can probably use strip footings effectively, or sonotubes at appropriate spacing.
