3/8" for walls?

Is 3/8" drywall too thin to use on walls? I have an attic remodel where I don't want to go to heavy on my materials to put any more additional stress on the roof and ceiling below. I thought I would use 1/2" but didn't know if I could get away with something lighter.

Check the weight comparisons and then remember how you are spreading the load.....I would never, repeapt, never use 3/8 rock for anything...too hard to handle without breaking it, lean on it and break it, etc, etc. The difference in weight over say, 20 sheets, might only be 400 pounds...if that is a major issues on what you are doing, you need to re-evaluate what you are doing...meaning you should not being making a living area in the attic.

We only use 3/8" sheetrock to go-over bad plaster or layer over (on top of) other surfaces. It is not something you would ever want to use on bare studs.

Besides that point - I agree with Joasis' advice on the 're-evaluating' course of action.
