2x4 for loft in shed

I am building a barn style shed with the gambrel roof. I am making a loft that will have about 5 foot of room. Will 2x4s and 5/8 inch osb be enough to store things if the 2x4s are on 24 inch centers. Thank you for your help.

What is the span of the 2x4's?
What things to be stored there - heavy stuff or lightweight items?

12' in length. Medium load......Seasonal decorations....that sort of stuff!

As a ceiling joist a 2x4 will span less then 10' 24" OC, even 16" OC won't get you there
Even 2x6's may be too little for storage ~10' 6"
If you are going to stick with 24" OC you really need 2x8's

I was also wondering if I could use the strong tie metal plates that they have at lowes to tie the 2x4's on the roof together. They say not for trusses on them but that seems to be what home depot uses to build their sheds. They are little metal plates with a bunch of nail looking pieces sticking out. I just want to make sure that it will hold and pass inspection.
