2nd Doorway to furnace room

The previous owner removed a stud on each side of the stairs to make a doorway under the stairs to go into the furnace room.

I realize this is a load bearing wall and needs to be fixed. I have two ideas:

1. Create a proper doorway with extra studs and header on both sides. Or,

2. Replace stud on one side and have doorway on other (but also reinforce with extra studs and header).

As this is a furnace room, does it need to have fireproof doors? Is more than one door allowed into the furnace room?

Thank you.
