23" and 36" overhang for aluminum soffit

I'm installing aluminum soffit on my house which has 23" overhang in most areas and a 36" overhang in part. All the directions I've found simply show installing the frieze runner (or J) to support it at the wall and nails or screws and the fascia to support the outside edge. None seem to mention just how long the aluminum soffit can be before it needs additional intermediate support.

How far do you span aluminum soffit before adding intermediate support?

23" and 36" overhang for aluminum soffit

joe's right, once its over 16" it needs another nailing edge to fasten it to otherwise it will sag

23" and 36" overhang for aluminum soffit

I've run it 24" on numerous occasions without incident. That is pretty standard. I also run it 4' or more for recessed entries, but they are only 3-6' wide.

23" and 36" overhang for aluminum soffit

So if 16" is the maximum span then I need two intermediate supports on the 36" overhang, not one right?

24" is done all the time here, have seen up to 4' over door entries and the like. I always allow for no more than 24" unsupported.

With 36" I would run one row of colored screws at 18"
