14X14 pole barn, need lumber size. Ottawa, Canada
I'm planning on building a 14' X 14' pole barn to store my ATV's and trailer. I would like to have the front side completely open so I need to span 14' for the roof beam and subsequently, 14' for rafters. What lumber size would be required for the beam and rafters assuming 16" center?
Roof will be one sided using a 12/2 slope so I'll have 8 foot high at the front and about 6 at the back. I'll have a 7' span between the other beams so I was planning on going to 2X8 treated lumber for those and with 6X6 for the posts (a total of 7). I live close to Ottawa, Canada so got to build accordingly for snow loads. I'm also going to put a tin roof.
Any recommendations/comments would be appreciated.
Anybody? Here are some plans I wipped-up.
I would probably go 3 posts front/3 at the back if possible. Is 7 feet between posts OK for a builtup beam of 3 2X8 and how about 14' for joists between the beams, is that too much? if I had 2X8 joists?
Please keep in mind I live in Ottawa, Ontario so got to account for snow load.
