I have a two wire submersible well pump that I want to put a plug on to run off my generator. I have the plug and it has four prongs that fits my generator, and the well pump has only three wires (white/black/ground) how do I wire it

Buy one of these....

Buy the one that matches your generator output, either 20 amp or 30 amp....

Does it normally run off Utility power?

If you are going to run this pump off of two sources of power, then you have to install a transfer switch. Besides making this a code compliant installation, it will save you a ton of headache every time you lose Utility power.

IF you only plan on running the pump off the generator, then we'll need the well pumps nameplate.

the utility power is gone, we had it taken out when the moblie home was moved - just need the well for temporary use and the plug would be installed perm.

Figure out the correct voltage on that pump, and then I would just install one of these on a post and tie the well pump wire into it, this way you can just run a cord set from your generator to this access point.

Your generator is supplying 120/240 volts, two hots, a neutral, and a ground...

Your well, depending on its voltage, is either going to only use two hots and the ground, (240v only) OR one hot and a neutral and a ground (120v only) this can be accomplished by only terminating the well wires to the correct spots on that inlet receptacle I posted.... But you have to know what voltage the well pump is. Im guessing 240v....
