wiring for welder plug


Hi,
I'm installing a small welder (230 v, 50 amp) in the garage and I'm not sure about the wiring for the plug-in.
The power supply was formerly used for an electric range. It was a four-prong receptacle with black, red, white, and ground wire. The new receptacle for the welder is a three prong. Which color wire goes where?
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

wiring for welder plug


The white will not be used for your welder rec. Put the blacks on X and Y, put the ground on the green or G. Have a ball.

Sorry, but I don't understand.
You said blacks. I have only one black wire.

Okay, black on X, red on Y, ground on G or green. White will be unused.
