Wiring for a sub panel

Hi, we built an addition and an attached garage to our home.
If we have are installing a 100 amp sub panel in the garage
Do we need to have a 100 amp circuit breaker on our main panel and
Can we use #2 wire from the main to the sub panel. It is going to run along
Our unfinished basement ceiling and then through conduit along the outside of the house up and into the garage where the sub panel will be. ( it will all be in conduit from the main until it comes inside the garage. Any help you can give will be appreciated! Thanks
