You have a short on your red wire if the switch is off and the breaker stays on. Check to see if your red wire got skinned. Your 14-2's would be your power in and power out to another switch down the line.
I removed switch and undid the wiring. Inspected wires and they appeared to be fine. Tested with multimeter and what I suspected was right as to which wire was the feed and which went to the light in question. I did notice the ground wire off the switch was bare, so I replaced with a sheathed wire, rewired switch and now its works.
My speculation is that the bare ground was touching a terminal on the switch and shorting it, if that's possible.
