Okay So we moved into this condo and there are a couple of things the lady would like to do. One of them is put some kind of lighting on top of the ledges around the kitchen area. There is a light switch right on the wall before going into the kitchen with two light switches... one works the light inside the kitchen and another does nothing... How would I go about wiring the electrical switch for the lighting to be installed or is there a place i could reference and do you all have any recommendations on lights that would be modern or better to install on top of the ledge?
Okay I will try to illustrate this the best i can because I do not know how to do the photos yet

I would fist verify that the switch which controls nothing does infact control nothing, it's very odd. Possibilities for it are an external light, an outlet or 1/2 of an outlet, or perhaps more sinister such as a buried outlet. By the way, how old is the condo?
As far as the lighting, I personnaly dislike lighting up on the ledge. It illuminates the ceiling very well, but not so much anything else. I would personally consider updating the existing light fixtures to a better fixture or a track lighting system before putting lights up on the ledge, that might just be me though.
