wiring question

can you run a LED night light bulb on a low voltage line like 12volts or is it not enough power?

wiring question

Most night lights are meant to run off of 120v
You would need to check the specs on the night light you buy
Running a 120v light on a 12v line would not work

wiring question

Hatter, Welcome to the forum
I agree with Scuba

This circuit diagram might help:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LED_circuit

Note that in the circuit diagram a resistor is used to drop the voltage down to the 2V-4V Led operating voltage (depends on the Led color) Blue and White Leds are in the 4V range, reds and yellows more like 2V.

Since just using a resistor is extremely uneconomical from a power standpoint multiple LEDs are connected in series with or without a Led Driver circuit that limits current.
