Wiring pot lights... Best way to branch off

I have a small family room, roughly 100 sq. (10' x 10').

Currently, there is a light fixture in the center of the room that is wired to a dimmer. I want to add 4 pot lights in a square formation to surround the light in the center of the room. I also want the 4 pot lights on the same dimmer switch.

My question involves the branching of the wiring from the center light -- is it okay to have two branches (2 lights on each branch) of wiring to go to the pot lights? Or is it better to be wired with all 4 in serial? For that matter is there any reason you couldn't have 4 branches total (aside from the mass of wires you'd need to marrette)?

Thanks!

The amount of feeds out of the center JBox would be dependent on what type of box is up in the ceiling due to box fill.

Will adding these lights keep you under the 12, IIRC, items per circuit limit under the CEC?

It is a standard sized 4" octagonal box, 1-1/2" deep. I am under 12 for sure...

Take a look at the centre luminarie to see how many cables or conductors is in the junction box if single cable ( two conductors plus ground ) then it is not a issue at all.

I rather run all in " series " but keep all the black to black and white to white and bare to bare and green conductour there. the reason is keep the amout of conductors in the junciton box to minuim.

Thanks!

As far for your junction box 4 inch octagonal box with 1.5 inch deep I will not go more than 3 cables the most on 12 gauge size but 14 gauge you may get by with 4 cable but I know Canada do count the marrette for the space in the junction box which the USA do not.

Merci,
Marc
