Wiring a plug to a new dishwasher

I just purchased a new maytag dishwasher after my GE crapped out on me. I pulled the old one out and saw that it had been a plug in (or at least setup that way) and the plug receptacle is in the same cabinet space as the dishwasher. It looks to be run on a circut for it alone, and the garbage disposal hard wire seems to run to the same outlet.
My question is what wire should I use to go from the junction box to the outlet? The instructions call for a 15A circuit and 120VAC. So I was going to go with an outdoor extension cord I cut to length to wire into the junction box. Its a 15A 125V 14g cord. The wires for the cord I bought are 14g but the black and white wires from the dishwasher seem to be 16g. Can I still use this cord?

No you cannot use this cord for what you propose. It was not listed for that purpose. Go buy some 14 gauge NM AKA Romex. It maybe expensive but it is not acceptable to cut up an extention cord and connect it to something.

See if the manufacturer or dealer sells a cord for the DW. If they do it will be fine. Otherwise you must hard wire it as Pudge said. You also need a disconnect if you cannot get an approved cord.
