Wiring outlets

I'm done wiring my basement lights and so far so good. Now, I'm in the process of adding outlets in the basement. My question is, is it better to run the wires from ceiling joists then down to the wall from outlet to outlet (1) or run the wires from ceiling joists then down to wall and then run the wires along the wall to the next outlet?

[JB] = Junction Box
[OB] = Outlet Box

1. [JB]------------[JB]-----------[JB]

2. [JB]------------[JB]

I prefer (1) so I don't have to drill holes on the studs. It's also harder to run conduit along the wall.

Wiring outlets

Whatever is easiest.

I would take the shortest route to use the least amount of wire. I would be thinking about the cost of the wire which is not cheap lately. And I have the tools to drill holes.

But if this is the only project you are doing, I suppose it would be cheaper to buy the wire than the drill and bits! (Whatever costs less...)

BTW, might want to wait for a few people to respond and discuss what you are doing. You mentioned studs and conduit....

Are you required to run conduit?

What type of wire are you using?

Are there studs which are open and this will be covered with drywall?

Are the studs 2x4?
