You can go wrong that way, you can cost someone a lot of extra aggravation, money, and time. Its just bad advice to give out incorrect advice.
Which is exactly what you COULD give if you don't pinpoint every single location, research their code cycle, and meet their inspector. I would much rather give (and get) CURRENT information. And their time, aggravation and money is of distant secondary concern.
Teach the latest and greatest. It is not possible to be wrong that way.
