Wiring an exterior covered patio area???

I extended out on my house to make a large covered area over my patio. It has a roof with attic space, and is not enclosed with walls. I plan on installing several recessed lights, outlets and a fan. since it is not enclosed and heated will I be able to use regular 12/2 electrical wire, J-boxes, lights, fan, etc?

Partially as long as you don't expose the nm-b to the elements. Your device boxes will need to be weatherproof and you will need emt conduit sleeves as protection for your drops to receptacle boxes and switches.

Romex... nonmetallic sheathed cable like inside your home. You also need a bushing where you enter the emt with the cable for abrasion reasons.
