wiring an electric receptacle
I have 1 wire hanging in my basement. It goes to the breaker box.(it is romex with 3 wires) I have purchased an outlet that I would like to connect to the lone wire but have never connected one and want to make sure my understanding of how to do it is correct before I go any further.
The receptacle I have has 2, 3 prong outlets on it.
On the left and right sides of the outlet there are 2 screws, as well as 1 other screw on the bottom left that has a green head.
I think that I am to put the hot wire on the side marked hot, and the other wire on the "white" side. That leaves the third and last wire. This wire has no insulation on it, I am assuming that it goes on the green screw.
Am I correct in assuming that this is how this is done? (with the power shut off of course!)
Thank you for any and all helpful replies.
The uninsulated one is the ground that goes on the green screw.
