Wiring from electric motor Hello All. could someone please tell me if i can wire a 1/2 hp elec. Exhaust fan motor with a plug such as a Dryer Pigtail direct to the motor so i can use the 220 side instead of hard wiring to the supply source ? thanks for any info. subman

Wiring from electric motor
It is physically possible, but I don't know if code would allow it. Please check with your Building Inspection Department for local electrical code.
If I'm not mistaken, a modern code 4-wire dryer plug has two hots, a neutral and a ground wire, but a motor in the 220 mode has only two hots and a ground. (I'm not a pro electrician, just a long-time DIYer.) Good Luck! Mike |
