Wiring Diagram Help

I have an old house and I replaced an old outlet with a new outlet and now only the left side of the outlet works the right side doesn't, when i plug a radio in (the right side outlet) it does not work. I have only two wires and I though I screwed them into the right terminals. and advice on the right wiring diagram?

Thanks

This is a receptacle? Left side?

If its a standard 120 volt convenience recept, check and make sure the jumper (hot side) has not been twisted off. It may have been a return you ended up with.

yes it's a receptacle, the left side works when i plug a light in but the right side outlet does not....since i know little about the jargon of the electrical world....when you say" JUMP" what does that mean? i have 2 silver terminals on the top and two brass terminals on the bottom and i have two black wires coming out of the wall. how do i wire this outlet?

Thanks

Look between the two screws on each side of the receptacle. There should be a metal tab connecting those two screws together. If it is broken off on either side the receptacle will only work on one of the positions.
