Question

Wiring a counter top stove

We are replacing a free standing stove/oven with a built in oven and counter top stove. Can I wire both new appliances through the one existing 220 wire? If so, where can I get a diagram?

What is the current rating for each appliance? And what size breaker do you have. I am not sure, but I think you need a dedicated circuit for each appliance. Someone will clarify.

Yes may do this for any cooking branch circuit rated not more than 50 amps. In most cases free standing ranges are 40 or 50 amps. So you should have one or the other existing. The conductors to the oven and stove top are considered tap conductors whether factory or field installed and must be at least 20 amp rated and must be sufficient for the load served. They must be ran to a junction box (one jb not two) adjacent to both pieces of cooking equipment where they will splice to the branch circuit from the panel.

You also probably have a neutral wire in the existing range circuit this may or may not be needed.

Thanks Stubbie. I will verify the amps and go from there. The wiring for the original free standing stove/oven comes through a junction box and so I splice it all there, right?
