Wiring Ceiling Box to Switch
My house is about 2 yrs old. In one of the bedrooms the switch is wired to control an outlet, and there is no ceiling fixture. I want to add a ceiling box (for a ceiling fan), and wire the ceiling box to the switch. Once complete I want the switch to control the ceiling fan, and the outlet to be always hot. Is this possible? How difficult to wire? Any instructions and advice would be appreciated.

Wiring Ceiling Box to Switch
Very simple change.
You may need to rewire at the receptacle to make it always hot and change the cable to the switch to feed line from a switch loop. The run a cable from the swithc box to the new ceiling box. I recommend a 3 wire + ground cable in csse you ant a ceiling fan with light at some time in the future. This will allow separate control of light and fan. If you open the switch box and the receptacle and tell us the wiring we can tell you what to change. |
