Wiring behind medicine cabinet

I want to put a recessed medicine cabinet in my bathroom but it would be in the space where the wires come down for the switches and outlet. There would be about 3/8" of space between the back of the medicine cabinet and the opposite drywall. Can the NM wires be run through that space or do I need to find a way around?

It may not be code compliant due to the possibility of some on driving a nail or screw through the back side drywall and hitting the wire, but it is commonly done. No splices back there , right?

No, no splices. I'm having second thoughts about puttiing the cabinet there so the point may be moot anyway.
