wiring 3 post lights....


ok i have 3 post lights on one switch (dimmer)....no lights were there so cant just copy......first light has black/white/orange wires.....same for second black/white/orange.....and third has black/white/green which is simple and obvious.....the first 2 have no green/ground....how would i wire these?? do the orange go with black??? please advise

These are all new fixtures? Did they come with instructions and/or a wiring diagram?

What's the brand and model number? Probably can find data on them online.

wiring 3 post lights....


standard post lamps....black/white/bare ground.....my question is the existing wiring at the posts.....as stated in original post 2 are black/white/orange.... last is black/white/green which is obvious....need to know thoughts on wiring each lamp excpet the last i guess

You need to find out where that orange wire comes from.
Have you opened the switch to see if it is there?

How are we suppose to know where the orange insulated wire terminates? Stop getting hung up on the color of the wire insulation and determine where this orange colored wire 's other end is at.


I think a good starting point as jbfan suggested is the switch location? Maybe . Possibly?

wiring 3 post lights....


Is there a single black/white/orange cable coming to the top of the post, or a pair of them? Does the B/W/O cable also contain a bare ground wire?

If it's just one cable, there must be a junction box at the base of the post, right?

wiring 3 post lights....


will look at switch see what i have there.....isnt it odd to not have a ground in 2 of the posts??? these are preexisting obviously and all wiring is underground so it makes it a little difficult...

wiring 3 post lights....


2 post have separate wires...bl/wh/orange with no green or bare....one has bl/wh/green.....all wires separate in pvc underground/concrete...they all run off same circuit as the posts are around a pool to light it.
