I cant find any info on this anywhere, so thought I would ask here. we want to purchase a sofa which has 2 power reclining seats in it. since the sofa will sit in the middle of the room, there is no outlet to plug in with out running a wire across the floor. I obviously don't want to run a wire under the carpet, and it occured to me that maybe one of the new wireless gadgets might work. does anyone know if this is a possibility? any help is greatly appreciated!

kim again

WOW - NO idea I was so ignorant, lol! I guess I should be completely mortified after seeing the responses, but I'm so uneducated in electric that I will just humbly plead complete ignorance ok?
Anyway, a friend had told me a while back that they now had wireless outlets coming out ( which i did locate on the web ) and I just wondered if the technology might apply to this.
Many apologies for bothering you all, but at least now I know:surrender:

Oh, btw, I'm in florida, so it is a concrete slab under the carpet. that was the obvious route, but can't do it. thanks again everyone

KimS the only stupid question is the one you don’t ask. You will most likely need an electrician. One solution could be some sort of poll lamp and outlet with a drop from the ceiling, just a thought.

one more question

I checked out the "geek" site. it has a "haha, april fools" under the product so I'm assuming that was a gag.
you know guys, (just to make myself more humiliated), I just thought since you can remote the garage door etc, there might be some kind of product that would work for this earth shattering issue, lol.
just don't want to spend $2500. on a power sofa I can't use!

btw - I have cathedral ceilings so I don't think anything from the top down is going to work.

now..... I know you all will kill me, BUT.........would it be so awful to run a wire 4 feet under the carpet if it is covered with something to protect it from getting damaged? it could easily be unplugged when we are not home. I'm ready for the hammering.......... go ahead...........

Absolutely not! If you have to use an extension cord do not run it under the carpet!

It is not all that hard to roll back the carpet and jack hammer a trench in the concrete back to the closest wall receptacle.

At least not that hard if it is you:yes: doin' it and not me:no:

Battery Recharger for Recliner

Despite the snarky comments of others, and even though the poor guy didn't get his answer, if anybody else has a similar question re. how to deal with power recliners when you have limited outlets, this is what I found:
"Flexsteel and Palliser now sell cordless battery units—typically a $299 option—to operate any of the power recliners that are in their lines. Having a battery unit allows you to place your power recliner anywhere in your home; it doesn’t have to be near an outlet. The rechargeable power packs work for 200–300 cycles of opening and closing, which means that they’ll work for up to 50 days based on average use before you need to recharge the power pack. The power pack beeps, like a cordless phone does, when it has to be plugged into an outlet to recharge. This is useful, so you can avoid getting stuck in your chair by a dead battery."

Let me know if you find something that is safe, using Tesla's principals. You could in theory send electricity through the air, in the same way that lightning is conducted, but I do not think that it is safe.

Really it is best that you install a floor outlet, if that room is over a crawlspace or basement, or use one of the flat ribbon methods, for setting up a electrical outlet in that area.

I got !!! My electric toothbrush is charged by non-contact induction. The receiving coil can only be a few millimeters from the dock station coil, and the current transmitted is only milli-amps, but works like a charm. (The obvious reason they do this is it allows the toothbrush to remain totally sealed.)

Which wireless gadget are you refering too ?
And how will it be used ?
Your question is so general, no one can answer it acuratily.

Don't let the yahoos on this site scare you away. Nobody is born knowledgeable of electricity; it's not impossible my wife (a teacher) might ask a question such as yours. Besides, there ARE wireless cell phone chargers. I still haven't figured out how they work.

Realizing that this is an old post.....

To the OP's defense....(who I suspect is a girl).....with all the wireless devices today, I'm not surprised that she would think there is a wireless option.

As for under the carpet....they do make flat extension cords made for that purpose.

You can only use the extension cord on top of the carpet, not under. They make flat ribbon systems, that use a piece of sheet metal, to protect the ribbon, before the flooring goes over it.
