wire through block and brick

Running a 12/2 wire through double layer of brick on one side and looks like concrete block on the other side. Thickness 8" approx. On one side of the wall is a 2x8 that the wire also has to go through. The wire is for a GFI. The wall is interior on both sides not exterior. Garage one side. Need to use pvc or metal conduit? Size of pipe for 12/2 wire? What type of fittings for the ends? The wire is going to the circuit breaker box. Thanks.

Conduit is not needed unless you just want it for protection against abrasions.

As stated you don't need conduit just keep in mind you can not cement it inside the wall unless its in conduit.
