Wire size questions

Would it meet code to use 8/2 wire for a 50 amp receptical for my welder or do I have to use 6/2?

Wire size questions

6/2 is good for 65 amps and 8/2 is good for 45 amps
when you are shopping around ask what the price of 6/2 and 6/3 is, usually 6/3 is cheaper as it is more used (60amp subpanels)
when i was wiring up my construction heater in my garage i bought 8/3 because it was much cheaper than 8/2 and i just cut the white wire as it entered the box
