Why use halogen lights instead of regular bulbs for outdoor lighting?

I just installed a motion sensor light. Right now I'm using regular bulbs in it while deciding if I should replace them with those big halogen lights.

Is there a reason for using halogen lights instead of bulbs, besides the fact that they are brighter? Are they safer, lets say, during a rain? Those halogens sure use a lot more electricity.

Thanks

The halogens are more brighter due the lumies per watt just the same idea with Miles per gallon on gazoline.

Yeah and they look more whiter in colour as well and they do come variation of size and wattage and size.

What wattage you are running now ?

Just keep in your mind some motion senser just can't handle very powerfull halogen luminaire[s]

Merci,Marc

I use a CFL floodlight - uses 65w = equiv they say to 300w
I haven't tried it with a sensor, puts out a lot of light

The manual says 300 watt max. incandescent. I don't know if that means wattage used or just how bright the lights are.

If your manual stated 300 watt max then you can use any type of bulbs up to total of 300 watt max but only if used for on and off real quick the halogen can do better task and there are few diffrent size halogen luminaire you can use

Are you using this to lit up the yard { this is most common way to use med to large halogen flood light to come on }

or other use like entrance way near the door ?

Merci,Marc

I want to illuminate the back of the house as a security measure. The motion sensor covers a small enclosed yard and an alley

Then my suggest that you go to the big box store and see the slection of the halogen motion luminaire there is few diffrent variations you can use and options as well.

They even have double 150 watts halogen flood light verison as well so take a look to see what it will suit your need { I know there is more than 15 differnt style and types for halogen flood luminaire }

Merci,Marc
